My web site is still a work in progress but I hope you will find something of interest here already. I will be adding a lot more as I get used to the technology and find the time. So, take your time, look around and enjoy my site.
I have always loved painting and drawing. After leaving school I studied Art at Newcastle Art School. I went on to teach art in high schools at Narandera, Yass and Bomaderry in NSW and later in Canberra and Darwin. In more recent years I have been able to devote more time to my own artworks and exploring different media.

As an art teacher I trained in and taught many techniques using a variety of materials. My obsession has always been "mark making" to create a surface rich in colour and visual or actual texture, one with a strong sense of design.
I still love painting and drawing but more recently my attention has been drawn to the possibilities of fabric and textiles to produce the texture and visual presence I am seeking.
I love to translate my own drawings into a manipulated fibre surface, sculpting and painting with fabrics and thread.

Using fabric to create artworks is not simply finding a nice print on a piece of cloth, adding a touch or two and sticking a border around it. That is NOT art.
I use fabric in the same way I use paint, each small brush stroke is a piece of fabric. I create texture by creating layers of colour and fabric to arrive at the texture and feel I want. If I can't find the colour or texture I am after I make my own. Once I have produced the composition I want then more texture is added using traditional quilting techniques to sculpt the background.
My subject matter varies but my inspiration most often comes from the natural environment. Birds, animals, trees, plants, flowers all initiate in me an artistic response.

I think this feeling was summed up well by Sydney artist Martin Sharp, “an artist is meant to reveal what is not obvious to people and work on it until it is”.
